Mews House, Dublin 6

This project was to replace a warehouse with 3 houses on a narrow, 15 m wide, mews lane site. The main concerns of height and density were been overcome with careful design of the front elevations and a multi-level plan. Although the site was narrow, it was very long, which allowed a deep plan. The problems normally associated with this type of layout i.e. dark central areas were overcome by the use of wide stairwells and large rooflights at the top of the stairs. In addition bathrooms and utility spaces were placed off the staircase in the centre of the plan. The key to making it all work was the section which ultimately involved 7 separate levels, but which allowed each room to be appropriate to its use and location. The project included interior design of all spaces with a complementary garden design scheme.
