Coda Architects was established in 1996 by Nicki Cloonan and Brian O’Donnell. Since that time we have gained valuable experience and established a reputation as an innovative but ultimately reliable practice. We have built a great team with expertise in a variety of fields with specialist groups working in the following areas: Commercial; One off Residential & Residential Developments and & Community & Public Works. We are a Grade One Conservation practice, with experience of work on Protected (Historic) Structures for both Public bodies and Private Clients. We also have a team specialising in large scale Commercial and Mixed Use developments, both new build and retrofit of existing including the design and detailing of low energy solutions.

Brian O’Donnell, Director
B.Arch., Dip.Proj.Man, MRIAI
Brian graduated from UCD in 1991 with a B. Arch. degree. He became a member of the RIAI in 1996 and received a Diploma in Project Management in 1995 from Trinity College, and has been a guest lecturer to the UCD School of Architecture over a number of years. Brian is also a qualified PSDP since 2010 and holds a Grade II Conservation accreditation from the RIAI. Prior to establishing Cloonan O’Donnell Architects, Brian worked in private practice and with the Office of Public Works. Brian is Director with responsibility for project development.
Nicki Cloonan, Director
B.Arch., MUBC, MRIAI
Nicki Cloonan graduated from UCD in 1991 where she also completed a Masters Degree in Urban and Building Conservation. She has a Diploma in Legal studies from DIT and is a member of the RIAI since 1995 with whom she is also accredited as a Grade I Conservation Architect. Before establishing Coda in 1996 Nicki worked in private practice and for Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. She has taught Interior Design in Blackrock Further Education Institute (formally SCD) for many years. Nicki is Director with responsibility for Conservation projects and both Domestic and Commercial interiors.
Gary Loughlin, Senior Project Architect
Dip.Arch., B.Arch Sc. MRIAI
Gary graduated from DIT Bolton Street in 1998. He possesses a strong body of both built and designed work in all sectors for both public & private clients. Gary has experience in the design and project management of bespoke architectural solutions and is an experienced sustainable design consultant. His portfolio includes a number of high profile infrastructure projects with Coda including the National Children’s Detention Centre and the National Library of Ireland.
Emma Murtagh, B.Arch.
Emma graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree (B. Arch) from UCD, where she also completed her Professional Diploma (Architecture). She works as part of the Residential refurbishment & new build team with Coda and teaches architecture on a part time basis for The Centre for Talented Youth in DCU. Emma has been working with Cloonan O’Donnell Architects part time since 2004, becoming a full time member of the team in 2009.
David Higgins, H.Cert Cons Tech.
David has been in invaluable member of our team since 2000. He holds a Higher Certificate in Construction Technology from Athlone Institute of Technology and has responsibility for Technical & 3D Design in the office together with being our Office Manager. David has extensive experience of preparing planning and tender documents for a wide range of Commercial and Residential projects.
Romy Kanitz, Dipl. Ing. Architektur
Romy was born and educated in Germany and has gained valuable experience working in both countries. She has previously work in Ireland for Blackwood Associates, Richard Hurley Architects and Niall D.Brennan and Associates. She has completed the RIAI Conservation course for Grade III accreditation.
Neringa Mataciuanite, Graduate Architect
Neringa has a Bachelor in Architecture from KTU, Kaunas, Lithuania. She completed an internship at Nabil Gholam Architects, Seville, Spain before joining Coda.
Keith Cleere, Graduate Architect
Paul has a B.Sc. in Architectural Technology and a B.A (Honours) in Architecture from Waterford Institute of Technology.
